Spring Ram

I think it’s fair to say, welcome to spring. At least sporadically here in the UK.

On that note, I wanted to write a short piece with some ideas for those of you wondering what to wear this season.

The harsher seasons are pretty straightforward — linen in summer, wools in winter. But spring can be tricky.

Fear not, though, because this is the season to explore Spring Ram.

Spring Ram is a crease-resistant, high-twist cloth, exclusively created by our friends over at Harrisons. From start to finish, all the work that goes into this cloth happens within a 20-mile radius in Yorkshire. Think of it as England’s Champagne, or Parmigiano Reggiano, just not edible.

The iconic Cheviot sheep, one of Britain’s oldest breeds, are reared in Matrick. Their fleeces are sheared, scoured, classed and sorted locally, with spinning, weaving, mending and finishing all completed in and around Huddersfield — the renowned epicentre of the world’s finest wool manufacturing. That's partly due to how soft the water is, which lends itself perfectly to the production of fine wool.

Cheviot wool has a specific micron diameter which, when spun to the correct yarn count, and twisted to the appropriate specs, ensures a cool, crisp-handled cloth. Perfect for the often indecisive weather in spring. Keeps you cool when it’s hot, and can withstand the inevitable showers of rain... or beer.

Basically, everyone I know in the tailoring game raves about this cloth. Plus, because the production all happens hyper locally, it’s a really sustainable product to use. Especially when compared with fast fashion raw materials.

We’d recommend having it made up in either a suit (it’ll be a work horse for you for the next decade) or, if you’re looking for a relaxed/unstructured sport jacket, with soft shoulders and patch pockets, this has to be up there with best contenders.

Dress it down with a denim shirt, sans or avec tie, and you’re laughing.

We’ll gladly make you the Spring Ram suit and denim shirt combo custom to your body measurements, but if you’re pressed for time here are two denim shirt options I like the look of.

Pini Parma, £204
